Making a case for treatment as prevention

The idea of using antiretroviral treatment as a potential prevention intervention is being hailed as an exciting idea although implementation could be a hurdle. Data strongly suggests that people on successful antiretrovirals do not transmit the virus sexually or any other way. The Lancet has released information revealing that ART reduces HIV transmission risk by 92% in heterosexual couples.

HIV and AIDS worsens SA’ s child mortality Living with AIDS # 433

The HIV and AIDS epidemic is largely responsible for the increase of child mortality rates in South Africa, Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi said at a media briefing early this week. His remarks follow the deaths of six babies at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and 10 at Natalspruit Hospital on Gauteng'€™s East Rand, recently.
