Meet Bernadette Maguire – Health-e’s new TV producer
Meet Bernadette Maguire, Health-e News’s newly appointed TV producer, digital content strategist, creative and dreamer. She is ready to make great TV and her first documentary will be broadcast tonight.
Bern is a passionate individual who likes to think out of the box – that current box being the digital space and the future of television.
She is a Rhodes University journalism graduate with a keen interest in environmental, consumer and investigative stories who seeks out the truth and objectivity in every situation. She has covered stories around the continent and thrives on danger – which may explain why she often signs up for difficult and dangerous assignments.
Bern began her career working on the talk show “The Felicia Show” in the 90’s, moved on to consumer journalism working on the popular Isabel Jones’ Fair Deal show. Her mainstay for 15 years was Mnet’s flagship current affairs show – Carte Blanche. In addition she has worked for several international news agencies including PBS, Sky, CNN, ITN, Al Jazeera and CBC.
Bern enjoys sinking her teeth into in-depth longer format documentaries and recently line produced doccies for Wildaid where “Saving Africas Giants” was nominated for an Emmy.
She is a recipient of the coveted Press Club Journalist of the Year Award, the SAPOA Journalist of the Year award, The Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year award and the international Genesis award.
Health-e News is proud of Bern’s first documentary for us. In collaboration with current affairs show Checkpoint we bring you the tragic stories of lives lost at the hands of a Potchefstroom doctor. The documentary flights tonight on eNCA at 9.35pm.
