A microbicide is a chemical in the form of a cream or gel or even suppository that can be applied inside, or inserted into, the vagina before intercourse to help prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. If proven effective as a preventative method the microbicide could be used with or without the condom. In the following report community health workers involved in the study that is scheduled to kick off next year reveal that it has not been an easy task to recruit participants.
