‘Long live those living with HIV’

‘When I first heard about my status I was consumed by denial – I did not want to accept the fact that I was HIV positive,’ Di admitted.
‘This went on from some years, until I met people like Mtshana (Siyabulela Mvlisi) who openly talks about health issues in their line of work, and give people advice on how to live a positive life even after discovering that you are HIV positive. HIV is not the end of your life, you can live for many years after going to the clinic and do HCT,’ he said.
After hearing the positive news, Di decided to accept his status and carry on living a full life. ‘I even forget that there is something wrong with me. As long as you control the HIV with medication, you can live a very fruitful life with lots of success if you are a person with dreams,’ said Di.
‘I hope this motivates and encourages others, especially the young men in my Village who are reluctant to test and know their status. You can join organisations like the Treatment Action Campaign and go to support groups in the clinics where you can get more information about many things.
‘I am proud to say I still have many years to live my life, as long as I adhere to my treatment,’ said Di. ‘Long live those living with HIV!” ‘ OurHealth/Health-e News
