Nyope addicts cause anguish in the community
SOSHANGUVE. Two shop owners in Diemplaza were badly beaten with broken bottles by five robbers, who are believed to be nyaope addicts..
Community sources said that the five men armed with guns arrived in a Toyota Venture at the complex and demanded cigarretes, cash, cellphones, airtimes and airtime machine from the two shopkeepers.
“These nyaope boys are really killing our neighborhood associations. Something must be done about nyaope dealers and the police patrol must always be visible,” said a witness who wanted to be identified only as Lucky.
Last week a confessed nyaope addict was beaten by communities while he was caught stealing car tyres in the same area.
Constable Reneilwe Moloisana said the police received a call from an anonymous person alerting them of the robbery and drove to the scene immediately, but the robbers had already fled.
The robbers went away with R1000, undisclosed amount of cigarettes, cellphone airtimes and one airtime machine.
A case of robbery and assault was opened with the police and the two injured victims were taken to Dr. Mukhari Hospital for medical treatment. No one has been arrested and police are investigating the case, said Constable Moloisane.
