Resource: Analysing the NSP Indicators

The National Strategic Plan for HIV, STIs and TB (NSP) sets goals that are measured against a set of indicators. The NSP Review, a joint publication between the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and Section27, has attempted to gather data currently available.
TAC and Section27 have assembled the data table below to summarise available data that may be used in tracking South Africa’s progress towards NSP goals. Their analysis revealed many TB data is outdated or not available. While HIV data is more up to date, there are inconsistencies due to differing data sources.
The table also shows significant room for improvement regarding the sharing of existing data by among others the National Department of Health and the South African National AIDS Council.
According to the NSP Review, the South African National AIDS Council, the Health Systems Trust and University of Cape Town are preparing a joint report on NSP indicators due to be release in June 2014.
The NSP Review adds that it welcomes any corrections to the figures presented in the data. Updated versions of this table will be made available in future NSP Review editions.
