Released alongside the annual District Health Barometer, the South Africa Health Review begins by reviewing changes in health policy and legislation in the past year. The review notes that Parliament passed only one Act tabled by the Health Minister in 2013, the National Health Amendment Act (12 of 2013).
It also notes that the National Health Insurance (NHI) White Paper and National Treasury’s NHI financing options discussion document are both outstanding.
In subsequent chapters, the review discusses progress on implementation of the country’s eHealth policy as well as district specialist team. The review also includes chapters exploring the private sector’s possible role in the NHI, cervical cancer and medical male circumcision.
