This government circular issued on 16 October describes changes in recommended prescribing of the contraceptive implant Implanon that may affect women living with HIV, TB and epilepsy.

The circular outlines that certain medications for these illnesses may interfere with the hormonal implants. Thus the circular recommends that women on specific medications such as efavirenz, rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital be prescribed alternative birth control methods.
