COVID-19 brings a stop to gang violence in Manenburg

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a temporary truce between gang members affiliated with the Clever Kids, the Americans and Jesters.Gang-related crime has stopped for the first time in years, as gang members band together to put food on tables. They are now working side-by-side, packaging food parcels for residents who face starvation due to the pandemic.

According to the Western Cape government, Manenberg residents are three times more likely to be murdered than anywhere else in South Africa, and the area is considered one of the most dangerous in the country.

But for now, the violence has stopped.
