Health-e News mourns the passing of board chairperson Celicia Serenata
It is with profound sadness that Health-E News announces the passing of the organisation’s Board Chairperson, Ms Celicia Serenata after a lengthy illness. Ms Serenata passionately and diligently served the Board for almost a decade.
She was committed to Health-e News, and contributed immensely to its stability. The quest to inform and educate marginalised communities about their right to health care and reporting on health issues in rural communities was close to her heart.
Reporting from rural and marginalised communities is one of the key purposes of Health-e’s OurHealth citizen journalism programme. Ms. Serenata supported this programme and was particularly keen on empowering citizen journalists to ensure that rural communities are represented in the media.
“She steered Heath-e through very turbulent times and managed to get us back on track. I regret that she will not be here to see our organisation grow and develop in the ways she had imagined. I will miss her kindness and sense of humour in whatever she did,” said fellow board member Dinesh Balliah.
Ms Serenata’s passing is an immense loss to the organisation. We salute her bravery in her darkest moments. The Health-e News staff and board send their deepest condolences to the Serenata family during this difficult time.—Health-e News
