Business woman Florence Muthuhathini-Mukwevho was honoured during a special event held at the University of Venda campus on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

According to Elius Mathivha, the organiser of the function, the department had decided to honour Muthuhadini-Mukwevho ‘€œin appreciation of countless contributions she has made to our people”.

‘€œIn 2012, Muthuhadini-Mukwevho donated one of her rooms from her business centre at Madifha village, outside Mutale which we now use as a mobile clinic. Before she donated this room, we were consulting our patients, young and old, under a baobab tree, using it as our mobile clinic.

‘€œShe also donated furniture for this office, including bed, table, chairs and a noticeboard,’€ said Mathivha.

In 2011, Muthuhadini, who owns The Big Tree Holiday Lodge, a book-shop, a shopping complex and other businesses, partnered with Tshikundamela Royal Council Health Initiative and the department to host Mental Health Day on an annual basis as the sole sponsor.

Since last year, Muthuhadini-Mukwevho started hosting the Forensic Psychiatric Workshop for 150 delegates including social workers, nurses, occupational therapist, doctors and others from the department of justice.

Asked why she decided to help, Muthuhadini-Mukwevho said she was moved by seeing women getting consultations under the tree.

‘€œWhenever I passed there, I could see that many of these women were not comfortable about getting consulted in an open space. Some also avoided visiting the place and opted to travel long distance to another clinic at Tshipise village because they were not feeling conformable there.

Muthuhadini urged other business people to help in any way they could in their community so that they can make a difference to other people’€™s lives. – OurHealth/Health-e News Service
