The 14-page paper discusses the impact of patents on the economy, the true cost of medical innovation and the problems with South Africa’s current patent system. The authors then argue that that reforms preposed by the Department of Trade and Industry are not only moderate and legal but reforms acknowledged or promoted by international bodies such as the World Trade Organisation, the World Health Organisation and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
