VIDEO: Social stigmas and period poverty

Up to 7 million South African girls do not have access to or cannot afford to buy sanitary products. This is known as period poverty. There is no national statistic on absenteeism due to a lack of sanitary products, but it is estimated that 30% of South African girls do not attend school while they are on their period.
